Why I decided to apply
I liked the idea of getting to know the world of business through a wide range of relatively short but intense projects. As an energy industry enthusiast, I was also drawn by McKinsey's Energy Practice—the prospect of doing energy projects around the world was very exciting.
My first thought when I started at McKinsey
During the round of introductions in my first week, I was very impressed by all the fascinating things my colleagues had done before, during, inside, and outside McKinsey. The thought crops up again when meeting colleagues for the first time.
Proudest moment
My proudest moment so far was when a client wowed her bosses with a presentation I'd worked on closely with her. She was really shining.
Strangest place I ever had breakfast while at McKinsey
At the airport in Stockholm, waiting for a snowstorm to pass.
Most important lesson I learned from a client
There's nothing as rewarding as making others successful.
Favorite movie/sites
I find the Earthflight series absolutely mesmerizing. After every episode, I add another five spots to my list of must-see holiday destinations.
Favorite Web site
It's a tie between Theoildrum.com and Theonion.com. The former because it provides a broad (and free!) range of fact-based views on the world's energy issues and the latter because it reminds us to interpret what we read with a pinch of salt.
Skill I never thought I'd have
Precision-packing my travel bag for weeks abroad.
Favorite restaurant in the Netherlands
I'm a big fan of Bird—it's a Thai restaurant on Zeedijk.
