Why McKinsey

I was particularly attracted to McKinsey because of its focus on creative solutions to problems, something I learned about in a “case study” class in University. After graduating from school, my interest in working the same way people do at McKinsey led me to join the firm in 2003 as a team assistant. The experience was very fulfilling as I contributed in my own professional area, helping consultants to solve client problems but also taking the initiative whenever possible. After three years as an experienced team assistant, I applied to be the executive assistant of a partner who I really wanted to support. In two years as an EA I developed my managerial and communication skills in complex situations. Now, I’m working as a visual aid to produce innovative solutions that meet our client’s visual-communications requirements. This role is my third job at McKinsey and is a perfect position for me because I want to contribute my creativity to support teams.

Designing your career in McKinsey

One of the great merits of being a VA is that you can design not only effective but creative messages in client documents. In some cases more than just a slide design is required, and I’m very proud of my work developing original and functional communication ideas and getting the right tone for our messaging. By fully understanding what I can do best and approaching it in a creative way, I’m sure that I will be able to take advantage of other exciting opportunities as well as we have many people in the firm that change their roles with their progression in their careers.
