About Stefan
Stefan plays two vital roles in McKinsey’s Tokyo office: he leads the Business Technology (BT) Practice and its client projects in the areas of technology-strategy development, infrastructure design, and provider/vendor evaluation. In addition, as an expert in software and services, he advises telecom, media, and high-tech companies on growth strategies and critical aspects of operating performance.
Stefan first served client organizations in Germany, where he built the European software and services Practice and led to the Telecommunications Practice. He extended that work when he moved to lead the Asia Telecommunications Practice in Beijing.
As a senior BT advisor, Stefan partners with CIO’s and technology organizations to optimize IT architecture, increase IT productivity, improve business processes and operations, and create value through effective deployment of technology. He has also counseled telecom and technology companies in performance-improvement efforts, guiding strategy and growth initiatives at software vendors, and helping IT-services providers shape their portfolios and substantially improve their operations.
His tenure with McKinsey coincided with the rapid evolution of and increasing competition in the mobile and fixed-telecom landscapes. Consequently, in addition to his strategy and operational-improvement support, Stefan has helped several telecom clients improve their marketing strategies and sales organizations to compete more effectively.
