About Vipul
Vipul Tuli is a director in McKinsey’s Delhi office. With deep experience across Asia’s energy sector, he supports clients in upstream oil and gas, refining, marketing and distribution, petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, and power. He also works with governments to strengthen energy policy and its implementation.
For example, Vipul has assisted national oil companies across India, Indonesia, and Thailand to reshape their growth strategies in view of ongoing shifts in oil, gas, and coal resource availability and demand. He leads a pan-Asian team that helps upstream companies navigate the changing dynamics of oil and gas in the Middle East, improve performance of mature assets, and build capabilities in new technologies and new geographies. For instance, he has helped Asian companies identify and access opportunities in North American liquid natural gas.
Energy security for India is a key focus area for Vipul. He has led several efforts on the future of Indian energy, working with the private sector, government, and public-sector undertakings. These have led him to support clients on resource acquisition and development, conversion-capacity expansions, and efficiency-improvement across the energy value chain.
Vipul also plays an active role in policy efforts. He has been a member of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s National Committee on Energy for 10 years and chairs its tariffs subcommittee. He is a regular contributor to policy-shaping discussions, committees, and conferences on petroleum, natural resources, and power. His current policy interests in India are in oil, gas, and coal exploration and development, power-system growth and stabilisation, peaking power, and rural distributed energy.
