About Rajat

Rajat Dhawan is a director in McKinsey’s Delhi office, leader of our Operations Practice across the Asia-Pacific region, and mentor to our Automotive Practice in India. He plays an active part in initiatives to grow India’s manufacturing sector, contributing to knowledge creation and policy development. He has also helped catalyse the growth of India’s automotive industry in partnership with the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Since joining McKinsey in 1997, Rajat has worked in India, China, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Germany and Southeast Asia, helping clients in diverse sectors to improve strategy and achieve operational excellence.

As a central theme of his client work, Rajat helps companies transform their operational capabilities—across product development, manufacturing, purchasing and supply chains—and in the process achieve major improvements in performance. For example, he has helped a global steel player transform its operations and profitability to world-class levels and has helped an oil and gas company in India execute a large capital project ahead of schedule, while strengthening its project management capabilities.

In the automotive sector, Rajat has helped several leading companies develop and deliver ambitious globalisation plans. For example, he worked with an Indian commercial-vehicle manufacturer to shape and execute a strategy for growth in Asian and Latin American markets, and transform its sales force and dealership capability at home. Rajat has helped other Indian players—including automotive suppliers and manufacturers of both passenger cars and two-wheelers—plan for long-term growth and strengthen the bottom line. And he has worked with a global luxury carmaker to shape its growth strategy and its manufacturing joint ventures in China.
