An interview is an opportunity for both you and us to find out whether McKinsey is the right choice for you. You will gain a detailed picture of our values and the kinds of problems we solve. We are also interested in your most significant past experiences and achievements, and the steps you have taken to achieve successful outcomes. During the interviews you will have ample opportunity to ask questions about consulting and working at McKinsey.
The interview process comprises two to three interviews in round one. If there is a fit, you will be invited to a final round of interviews with the partners. Each interview is about 30–40 minutes and the format typically includes some personal-experience discussions as well as a case study. In addition, short-listed candidates are required to take a 60-minute standard McKinsey problem-solving test. If you can deal creatively with complex problems and structure your thinking logically within a reasonable amount of time, you are well on your way.
In the case of experienced candidates, our recruiting team will reach out to you to provide information about the firm, the relevant practice, and the way we work. The team will also apprise you of the interview process and share preparatory material that will be useful in your interview preparation. As part of the initial reaching-out process, you may be invited to a phone interview.
We have created a comprehensive set of materials to support you in your interview preparation, which is available on our global Careers site. You will find further detailed information under What we look for and on the Interview process Web pages, including practice tests, and practice case studies.
