About Henrik

Henrik Arwidi is a director in McKinsey’s Johannesburg office and leads our work across sub-Saharan Africa. Swedish by birth, he fell in love with Africa on his first visit to Kenya and moved to Johannesburg in 2001. His two sons were both born in South Africa.

Having played a core role in building McKinsey’s African practice, Henrik is proud that we are now a leading consulting firm across the region, working with top government and business leaders in many countries and counting some of Africa’s best talent amongst our staff. He is passionate about harnessing McKinsey’s local and global expertise to help unlock Africa’s tremendous growth potential.

A major focus of Henrik’s work is in helping African companies strengthen their international competitiveness, both through transforming operations and reshaping organisations.

Henrik is also deeply committed to helping African governments strengthen infrastructure, reform institutions, improve outcomes in education and health, and support the continent’s accelerated economic development. He supports McKinsey’s extensive Public Sector Practice in Africa, and deepening this work is a key focus.

Finally, Henrik is passionate about creating a work environment that attracts outstanding African talent and inspires people to deliver great outcomes for individual clients and entire countries. Developing African leadership, both within McKinsey and in our clients across the continent, is his single greatest priority.
