About Filipe

Filipe Barbosa is a director in McKinsey’s Johannesburg office, and leads our work in energy and basic materials across sub-Saharan Africa. Filipe also co-leads McKinsey’s Capital Productivity Practice and is part of McKinsey’s global Strategy Practice leadership team. He has served several leading local and global companies, including diversified and regional mining houses, metal producers, and oil and gas/petroleum multinationals. His areas of expertise include strategy, mergers and acquisitions, commodity pricing, value-chain, capital project optimisation, and capital investment.

Filipe’s experience includes serving a leading global mining house on all top management aspects. Further, he has co-authored a McKinsey white paper on the coal industry for the government of a large Asian country.
