Why McKinsey?
I had always known I would move back home after college, but I had three key criteria for work: people, training, and exposure. I wanted to be surrounded by smart, interesting, driven people who would inspire me and push me to work at my best. It was also important for me to work in an environment in which I would be exposed to people from all over the continent because even though I had been to fairly international schools, I tended to meet a lot of Europeans, Americans, and Asians, rather than other Africans. Also, I was looking for a company that would give me world-class training in analytics, leadership, and people management—a place that would not only give me theoretical training but would also put me in an environment in which I could apply these teachings. I wanted exposure to a range of industries across Africa and to senior management in the top corporations across the continent.
McKinsey was the only place that I knew of in Lagos that satisfied my criteria. The people are great; the firm is obsessed with training and personal development, and when it comes to clients we work with the top people at the top firms. It was a no-brainer and I never thought to apply anywhere else.
Why Lagos?
At McKinsey Lagos we get to work with some of the most exciting African companies, the organizations that will help shape the future of this continent. Additionally, even at the BA level, we get to interact with senior people. I'm one year out of college and am leading meetings with the CFO of one of the largest banks in Africa. It doesn’t get much more exciting than that!
Tell us about yourself:
I'm half Nigerian and half Ghanaian. I've grown up in Lagos, the United Kingdom, and the United States. I moved back to Nigeria in September 2011.
