The standard of living of the average Nigerian is still low. I wanted to stop talking about these problems and start helping to solve them.

Background prior to McKinsey

Before joining McKinsey, I worked as a small business adviser with a non-governmental organization focused on providing business advisory support to small businesses. I once advised a small-scale paint producer on how to reduce his debt burden and better manage his business finances. I also worked as an audit trainee with one of the audit firms in Nigeria.

My McKinsey experience

I have had an exciting experience at the firm! I work with incredibly smart people every day, tackling important problems—from turning around struggling businesses to helping cities reduce unemployment. Since joining the firm, I have served clients across the power, banking and automotive industries, among others. On one of my projects, we helped an institution exceed its revenue target by over 100%.

Why Lagos?

I was keen to be a part of Nigeria’s growth story. Despite being one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, the standard of living of the average Nigerian is still low. I wanted to stop talking about these problems and start helping to solve them. In the Lagos office, I’ve been able to work on issues that affect local industries, global players and the economy as a whole. The fulfillment I get from working every day is unquantifiable. Ten years from now, I hope to have played a part in the helping my country achieve its amazing potential.

Tell us about yourself

I enjoy cooking, although the jury’s still out as to how good my food is. I am passionate about pediatrics and someday, look forward to making healthcare affordable for the children and the vulnerable citizens in our society. I also enjoy teaching—some acquaintances believe I will end up as a university professor!
