José Queijo is an associate principal in McKinsey’s Lisbon Office and has worked extensively in Angola. He is passionate about making a tangible difference, both for individual clients and for whole countries. A major focus of his work is in the public and social sectors in Africa, where he helps strengthen institutional performance, unlock development, and motivate and develop people. José is an active member of McKinsey’s Public Sector Practice.
José has significant experience in public finance, particularly in reforming tax systems to promote economic development.
He has also worked with private companies in the financial-services, transport, and energy sectors, with a focus on strategy, operations, and corporate finance. Among other projects, he has helped clients transform their operational performance and shape plans for international expansion. José derives great satisfaction from helping clients create new value—for example, by developing new business units, launching new products, improving processes, and upgrading organizations.
Prior to joining McKinsey, José worked as a telecommunications specialist, developing and launching new mobile services for operators in Europe and the United States.
