José Nogueira is a principal in McKinsey’s Lisbon office and is part of the leadership team for McKinsey’s practice in Angola. He works with major institutions—both public and private—on performance transformation, market-entry strategy, and growth. José’s areas of expertise include the public sector, financial services, and telecommunications.

One of José’s key projects has been to support the transformation of a very large institution, covering organization, operations, and systems, among other topics.

As a leader of McKinsey’s Financial Services Practice, José also has extensive experience in expanding the reach and economic contribution of the banking sector in Africa. For example, he helped shape the African entry and growth strategy for a major international bank. He has also worked with a major African bank to review and strengthen its operational performance.

In telecommunications, José has worked with a key international operator to define its entry strategy for Angola and build its operations in the country.

Outside of McKinsey, José is deeply involved in efforts to strengthen business education and its societal impact. He has helped drive a 5-year transformation program for a business school, including building a partnership between the school and the city in which it is located.
