About João
João Segorbe, an associate principal in McKinsey’s Lisbon office, has deep experience in supporting business development in Angola and other African countries. He has worked with major companies in the energy, oil and gas, and industrial sectors to define strategy, design large-scale capital investments, and strengthen operations.
In oil and gas, João has supported the ramp-up of multibillion-dollar investments in Africa’s oil industry. He has also defined the strategy for the retail business unit of a major multinational and reviewed pricing across an extensive retail network after a merger.
In energy, João’s experience includes working with an African country to develop a national strategy and support major capital investments in its energy sector. He also designed the strategy for a large energy company to enter a country’s retail-electricity market.
João has supported the newly appointed board of a major industrial business in defining its strategy, led the optimization of a large consumer-goods company’s industrial footprint, and conducted a study to identify merger and acquisition opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa.
Outside of McKinsey, João is active in the social sector, with a passion for strengthening management practices in child-care and elder-care organizations. He played rugby for Portugal’s national team and still plays the game in his spare time.
