About Bruno
Bruno Carrilho is an associate principal in McKinsey’s Lisbon office. Born in Angola, he has worked there for years. Bruno helps clients to shape and implement large-scale, multiyear transformation programs in a range of industries, including aviation, telecommunications, and the public sector.
For example, Bruno supported a comprehensive multiyear transformation program for an African airline. Recent initiatives included the setup of a new pricing and revenue-management unit, the design of the fleet-expansion strategy, the restructuring of the purchasing and financial departments, and the setup of a comprehensive talent-development program. The pricing and revenue-management unit alone was responsible for double-digit growth in revenues from international routes.
Working with a major African mobile operator to sustain growth rates of more than 20 percent in an increasingly saturated market, Bruno led the development of a revised growth strategy based on exploring value pockets outside the “traditional” consumer segment. In this context, Bruno developed and supported the implementation of a new strategy for the corporate segment, which included new products and a new commercial approach, supported by a fully restructured organization, as well as a stimulation plan for mobile data usage; these initiatives are on track to achieve the company’s goal of more than doubling initial revenues in three quarters.
Bruno has also designed a comprehensive turnaround plan for a large infrastructure operator, including the definition of a new long-term strategic plan, a new organizational blueprint, and the setup of a delivery unit to implement all the transformation initiatives. The total estimated impact of the initiatives in operational margins exceeded 40 percent of initial revenues in 3 years.
