What we look for in recruiting candidates

We recruit exceptional people from all academic backgrounds and nationalities. We look for candidates with excellent academic records, strong analytical skills, and a keen interest in learning.

McKinsey consultants excel in four main areas:

Problem solving. We help leaders solve their toughest and most urgent problems. We have strong intellectual abilities and a practical sense of what works in complex organizations.

Achievement. We strive to make a distinctive and lasting impact for our clients. This requires tremendous energy, determination, and judgment, particularly when working with multiple stakeholders under tight deadlines.

Communication. We work closely with a wide range of people within the context of their daily jobs. This calls for strong communication skills—particularly when addressing conflicting points of view. We are adept at building trusting relationships with clients to enlist their participation and support.

Leadership. Leading people and fostering productive teamwork are critical to success here. Our leadership skills bring people together to drive positive change within organizations.

Life as a McKinsey consultant

Working collaboratively

At McKinsey, we work together in teams comprised of consultants across tenures. Much of your learning and development will happen within your team. You’ll receive coaching and feedback from your team before, during, and after your projects. Your teammates are there to help and support you.

All our team members have access to the approximately 1,500 knowledge professionals who “consult to the consultants” by providing rapid access to specialized expertise and business information.

This rich resource is unique among consulting firms, and it means that you learn from the best experts our firm can bring to bear on a topic—both within and outside the team room.

Training opportunities

While consultants at McKinsey have diverse backgrounds, we operate as one firm with a global culture. In support of this, all consultants attend tenure-specific, ongoing training in skills related to both consulting and communication. Consultants attend a global training session with colleagues from other offices about every 18 months, which provides opportunities to build a network of peers and to deepen knowledge and skills.

Work/life balance

Working with senior management at client companies can make for unpredictable—and sometimes long—work days. We evaluate the overall quality of each consultant’s work and provide tools, training, and support so that consultants can serve clients well while maintaining a life outside of work. We believe a full life outside of work enables you to be a stronger contributor inside the office.

Roles we are recruiting for at McKinsey Angola

Career progression at McKinsey is governed by a “promote when ready” philosophy. We are meritocracy, which means that when you demonstrate the skills needed for the next level, you advance—regardless of your age or years at the firm.

Fellow analysts, junior associates, and associates in Angola are generalists and therefore are not assigned to a particular business unit or function. We will help you set goals and develop a career that will enable you to deepen your expertise with the opportunities to contribute to the success of our clients and the firm. While some new joiners continue to build on expertise in a given area, many others work on projects in a range of different industries.

There are three roles for which we have a standardized recruiting process: fellow analyst, junior associate and associate.

Application process
