Working with real life challenges has deepened my perspective and helped elevate my problem solving abilities to new levels.

After finishing my degree, I wanted to join a company where I could build on my skills and knowledge, and be challenged at the same time. I expected McKinsey would offer many different challenges to how one thinks and learns, and I was right–that proved to be the case from day one! Every day, my colleagues and I are helping our clients discover innovative and often unconventional solutions. Through these collaborations, I’m constantly developing new skills and pushing my own thinking.

Problem solving keeps me motivated

The best thing about following a steep learning curve is that the journey never ends. That’s what keeps me motivated each day. Since joining McKinsey three years ago, I’ve noticed that working side-by-side with clients has shifted my thinking away from simply analyses and numbers, to more broadly consider processes. Working with our clients’ real life challenges has significantly deepened my perspective and helped elevate my problem solving abilities to new levels.

McKinsey teams collaborate to improve

I find the people at McKinsey inspiring. You never work alone and there are so many intelligent and talented people who motivate you to think differently. Recently, I worked with a team serving a large consumer goods client in Europe. Each team member was constantly encouraged to examine the solutions we came up with from different angles. This drive for deeper insight led us to propose an international strategy that accounted for the complexities of different markets, and proved to be the right solution for the client. It only happened thanks to our close team work. Collaborating in this way means we can help clients achieve large-scale performance improvements, which really adds an extra dimension to my job.
