McKinsey attaches great value to training and professional development, since only consultants who continuously improve and expand their knowledge are able to obtain outstanding results over time.
The choice of training options
will be tailored to your background, experience, and requirements at every stage
of your McKinsey career.
Contributing to knowledge development while working on papers, books, and articles based on internal research efforts offers you another way to broaden your thinking and reputation.
Induction Training When you join McKinsey, you'll attend learning programs designed to help you master core consulting skills and develop business judgment. Our one-week Basic Consulting Readiness (BCR) workshop focuses on essential consulting skills such as structured problem solving, client communications, and knowledge management. The course gives you an introduction to the firm and an early opportunity to work and socialize with your new colleagues.
Functional Practice Training Our Operations consultants meet regularly at conferences, technical training, and work sessions in different locations, in order to exchange ideas, deepen expertise, encourage cross-practice thinking, and develop specific knowledge in manufacturing, product development, purchasing and supply management, service operations, and supply chain management. Experienced professionals lead discussions and conduct hands-on problem solving sessions for optimum learning.
Career Development Workshops As you
progress, you will have access to learning programs specifically designed to help
you develop the skills you will need at that particular stage in your career
at McKinsey. Our formal learning programs are case-based and hands-on, with
a strong emphasis on interactive group learning rather than
lecture-style presentations. Through a range of innovative learning techniques,
your capabilities will be developed in leading problem-solving, dealing with
conflict, handling different operating styles, influencing with integrity, and
facilitating group work.
In each program, you receive support and intensive coaching from senior McKinsey faculty, experts, and peers. Most are conducted with firm-wide participation to give you the opportunity to build professional relationships (and often lifelong friendships) with colleagues from around the world.
The specific programs you attend will vary depending on your background, experience, and career path. Read more about some of our core enhancement/role-change programs.
