About David
David leads McKinsey’s Telecommunications, Media, High Tech Practice in Australia and in New Zealand. He also serves clients in various Asian sectors on regulatory strategy. David was previously based in New Zealand, where he led McKinsey’s office, and in Switzerland, where he served clients in Europe, North America, and North Africa.
David's main focus is on strategy and corporate finance topics in telecommunications, media, and other sectors. He has developed corporate strategies for integrated telco operators, mobile operators and network companies, in collaboration with their chief executives and boards of directors. Most of David's work deals with growth-to-yield balance, portfolio management, and resource allocation.
He has considerable expertise in regulatory strategy for telco providers. One study identified how operators’ stance and measures in response to the government’s regulatory agenda would affect long-term industry structure and impact the sector's value. The knowledge developed includes the value implications of different models of separation (e.g., structural, functional) on criteria such as implementation and ongoing operational cost, effectiveness of governance, ability to retain competitiveness, and eventually shareholder value.
