About Steven

Steven leads our Sustainable Enterprise service line, which pulls together McKinsey’s expertise across energy, water, clean technologies, operations and other disciplines to help clients develop and implement sustainability strategies that span the entire value chain.

He works closely with retail and consumer products companies on core industry issues such as measuring the impact of sustainability programs and creating frameworks to improve transparency into the impact of everyday products.

Recent examples of his work include helping a leading global brand to ensure that its sustainability program will create long-term business and societal value; helping a large global retailer build the capabilities it needs to promote sustainability in its private label products; supporting a consumer goods trade organization in creating waste management practices to increase packaging recovery rates, spark an aftermarkets for recycled materials, and develop an improved recycling infrastructure; and facilitating a joint effort between a large global foundation and a leading retailer to develop Africa-based sourcing programs that stimulate sustainable development for smallholder farmers.

Steven provides pro bono assistance to several non-profit organizations promoting sustainability in consumer packaged goods and retail. Prior to joining McKinsey, he founded and ran a consulting firm that worked with industrial clients to integrate environmental strategies into their manufacturing processes.

Steven serves on the board of advisors for Glean, a Chicago-area organization dedicated to feeding the hungry.
