About Claus
Claus has more than 20 years of experience in the high-tech industry. A physicist by training, he advises industrial electronics, semiconductor, and telecommunications companies on reengineering, productivity improvement, and corporate and business-unit strategy.
In addition to serving clients in Europe, Claus has worked extensively in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Recent examples of his client work include the following:
- advising a semiconductor client on its corporate and busines- unit strategy, including the identification of a joint-venture partner
- helping several high-tech and industrial-electronics companies optimize their R&D processes
- supporting extensive benchmarking of high-tech companies’ manufacturing and development processes in Europe, North America, and Asia
- assisting a client with an effort to optimize its end-to-end logistics chain—from forecasting to order scheduling and fulfillment
- helping a semiconductor client implement new processes for tactical and value-based pricing
- supporting a client in outsourcing shared services, facility management, and IT infrastructure
Prior to joining McKinsey in 1993, Claus worked as a research associate at the Max Planck Institute and at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and as a staff scientist at Siemens. He earned a PhD in physics from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, as well as master’s degrees in physics from the University of Cambridge and RWTH Aachen University.
