About Jimmy
Jimmy is the global convenor of our Infrastructure Practice. He was previously the convenor of the Operations Practice in Asia.
Based in Washington, DC since July of 2012, Jimmy serves a range of clients—from government agencies to private developers, asset owners, and operators. He advises clients on the planning, design, financing, procurement, construction, and operation of infrastructure assets. He specializes in structuring and supporting efficient and effective public-private partnerships, driving capital productivity in all stages of megaprojects, and advising on transportation infrastructure and large real estate projects.
Jimmy joined McKinsey’s greater China office in 1990 and over the course of 20 years, lived in Taipei, Hong Kong, and finally, Beijing. During his tenure in Asia, Jimmy served multinational, Asian, and Chinese clients—both public and private—on a range of topics, such as strategy, mergers and acquisitions, manufacturing operations, supply chain, and purchasing and supply management. He is the co-author of the book Operation China: From Strategy to Execution, a publication that is often cited as the roadmap for doing business in China. A regular speaker and panelist, Jimmy has appeared before the Asia Society, the US Chamber of Commerce, the Young Presidents’ Organization, and scores of students, faculty members, and community members at Harvard Business School.
Jimmy is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations. In addition, he serves on the boards of the National Committee on United States-China Relations, the Harvard China Advisory Group, Teach for China, and Brown University’s China Council. Jimmy earned a MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar, and a Ford Scholar, and where he received the Thomas M. and Edna E. Wolfe award for academic excellence. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
