About Chandru
Chandru is a leader in our Public Sector and Business Technology practices in the Americas. Since joining McKinsey in 1993, he has advised government institutions and Fortune 500 companies on corporate and business-unit strategy, IT development, network operations, cost reduction and productivity, pricing, sales channel effectiveness, and customer loyalty and retention.
In the past few years, Chandru has focused on helping federal and state government agencies and telecommunications companies tackle their most challenging IT issues. Examples of his recent projects include:
- helping a federal agency develop and improve end-user customer-experience metrics for its IT function
- working with a state agency to create a long-term, $60 billion portfolio investment strategy that defined goals and targets, an action plan, and resourcing and governance requirements
- developing a performance-management and cost-reduction program for frontline network technicians and supervisors at a telecom company, resulting in a 15 to 20 percent performance improvement in network installation and repair operations within 12 months
- directing a project at a telco based in the United States to improve enterprise sales-force effectiveness by 25 percent in 9 months
Based in Atlanta, Chandru has led a number of our internal knowledge-building efforts, including one focused on estimating future drivers of enterprise IT demand and determining the implications for CIOs and IT vendors. He also led an effort to identify emerging opportunities and business models for addressing the rapidly converging telecom, Internet, and computing needs of small- and medium-size businesses.
Chandru earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology before pursuing a master’s degree in the same field from Vanderbilt University. He also holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
