About Byron

Byron Auguste is the global leader of the Social Sector Office, which serves leading institutions on some of their most pressing societal challenges. He works across the private, public, and non-profit sectors globally, on issues related to economic development, technology, and education.

In the social sector, Byron has worked with a range of institutions including multilateral development agencies, innovative non-profit organizations and public-private partnerships, and major philanthropic foundations. He also has extensive experience serving clients in public education, working with school districts, state education agencies, charter management organizations, and federal agencies.

Byron has authored numerous reports and spoken at universities, industry roundtables, and public policy forums on topics related education, economic development, job creation, innovation, technology, and globalization. In June 2011, Byron co-authored “An economy that works,” which analyzes the causes of slow job creation and the implications for future job growth.

Byron is the co-founder and board chairman of Hope Street Group, a nationwide, nonpartisan, volunteer organization of professionals and entrepreneurs who promote public policies that expand economic opportunity. He also serves on the board of The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Pacific Council on International Policy. He was appointed by President Obama to the White House Council for Community Solutions in 2010, and elected a Successor Trustee of the Yale Corporation in 2011.

Before joining McKinsey & Company in 1993, Byron received a doctorate in economics and worked as an economist at the African Development Bank, LMC International, and Oxford University’s Foreign Service Program.
