Summit on Public Sector Productivity
The newly established McKinsey Center for Government (MCG) recently sponsored the Summit on Public Sector Productivity in Washington, DC, on March 15. The Summit focused on two important questions governments face around the world:
1. How can government do more with less in a time of great fiscal uncertainty—improving not just efficiency but also effectiveness?
2. How can government change under pressure and what can we learn from others’ experiences?
More than 100 people, including high-ranking US government leaders up to the level of secretary and senior McKinsey colleagues from around the world, attended the event. Drawing upon practical experiences and insights from the US and abroad, there was thoughtful discussion during topical small group sessions, plenary presentations, and panel discussions about why public sector productivity matters and what it takes to improve it.
