About Ulrich
Ulrich is a leader in our Chemicals practice, and directs our work in Specialty Chemicals in Europe. Most of his projects reflect his expertise in strategy, growth, and innovation and R&D, as well as his knowledge of mergers and acquisitions and biotechnology. He is based in Frankfurt.
Notable examples of Ulrich’s recent work include the following:
- Building long-term strategies for several global specialty chemical companies, often with focus on growth in emerging technology fields
- Helping chemical companies screen potential M&A targets, conduct due diligence, and facilitate post-merger integration
- Supporting large-scale reorganizations that involve the introduction of new operating models and governance structures
- Creating a portfolio of growth options for an industrial biotech player
- Optimizing the manufacturing network of a mid-sized chemical company
Ulrich also played an instrumental role in developing InnomaticsTM, our proprietary tool for helping chemical companies assess their innovation performance using both quantitative and qualitative metrics.
Before joining McKinsey in 2004, Ulrich worked as a research scientist at the European Molecular Biology Laboratories in Heidelberg, Germany. While earning a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Regensburg, he spent a year as an exchange student at Washington University, St. Louis.
