What is “Emerging Scholars”?
In short, it's a scholarship, a networking opportunity, and a celebration.
You have decided to pursue your MBA? Congratulations! You are about to embark on an exciting journey of self-discovery and enrichment. You have worked hard to reach this point in your career—demonstrating distinctive achievement and drive. Your MBA will undoubtedly provide a launching pad for many opportunities in the near future.
At McKinsey, we would like to be among the first to celebrate your success. We are eager to get to know people just like you who:
- Actively seek ways to maximize their own potential
- Enjoy tackling complex challenges that matter
- Thrive when working collaboratively
Ultimately, we are looking for people who, like you, yearn to do more than just come to work; they want to change—themselves, their peers and the world around them.
If this sounds like you, we hope you will explore this opportunity further. This summer, McKinsey will be gathering a select group of pre-MBA students and awarding these individuals with scholarships, as well as the chance to start building a remarkable network. This is an opportunity to learn more about McKinsey and the people that make us special, in addition to an exceptional group of your peers.
The prize package—what does the scholarship include?
- Monetary awards for the highest performing applicants
- Individual mentorship by McKinsey's consultants
- Participation in a celebratory event for the final group of scholars
The details—what are the eligibility requirements?
Candidates for the scholarship need to be newly admitted to a full-time MBA program beginning in the Fall of 2014 at one of the following schools:
Yale–School of Management
The logistics—how do I apply?
Please submit your application online by May 21, 2014. The deadline has just been extended! We understand you may still be in the midst of deciding where to go to school in the fall, and we want to ensure we are accommodating for such an important decision.
The application is simple—just your resume, as well as some basic information about you.
All applications will be reviewed and we will notify you of next steps by late May.
We will announce our scholars by early July and host the celebration event shortly thereafter.
The experience—testimonials from our past scholars
Don't just take our word—hear what some of our 2013 scholars have to say about the program.
Tory S, 2013 Scholar from Kellogg:
“McKinsey's Emerging Scholars program was an invaluable experience. We didn't just hear about their culture, we experienced it over drinks and dinner. They didn't show slides touting their high-impact work and renowned problem-solving approach they let us actually tackle a prior project with McKinsey facilitators.”
“In the end, you understand why CEOs and prime ministers call McKinsey first, why the best and brightest work there and, most importantly, whether or not the Firm (and consulting) is right for you—all before you step foot on campus.”
Shaan G, 2013 Scholar from HBS:
“The McKinsey Emerging Scholars program, for me, is an unparalleled opportunity to learn more about McKinsey and about consulting. As you will soon find out, the recruiting process is a flurry of activities for all firms, so it is always refreshing to have the time to step away, take stock of my future and have fulfilling conversations about it with my Scholars mentor. To anyone who has ever thought about a career in consulting, the Program offers a wonderful chance to learn more.”
Adam S, 2013 Scholar from Wharton:
“The Scholars program afforded me an unparalleled opportunity to learn immensely from the most talented people in the world—my McKinsey mentors. Everyone at the firm has been extremely accessible and has continuously gone out of their way to provide me with honest and constructive feedback, always with my best interest at hand.”
Daniel W, 2013 Scholar from HBS:
“The Emerging Scholars program provided a great introduction to McKinsey and the excellent people who work there. Starting an MBA program can be overwhelming–especially for folks with a non-traditional background–and having the chance to visit an office, meet consultants, and wrestle with some of the problems they work to solve gave me a much better sense of what a career at McKinsey would look like. I'm grateful to have had the chance to take this in-depth look at the Firm before the semester began.”
