Early Beginnings
There is not a more dynamic place than the Firm
I am originally from Los Angeles, but my father’s career dictated a relocation every 2 to 3 years. While not always an easy transition, moving across the country helped me develop the ability to quickly adapt to new and changing environments, something that has been a huge benefit at the firm. I completed high school in Seattle and subsequently attended Rice University, earning my undergraduate degree in economics and managerial studies.
Why McKinsey?
Upon leaving Rice, I joined the health & welfare practice of a human resources consulting firm. While I enjoyed the work, two years in I realized that I wanted a broader experience. I decided to pursue my MBA at the University of Michigan – Ross School of Business. At the time, I was not familiar with the larger consulting firms, including McKinsey. One of my early mistakes in the recruiting process was to internalize the stereotype that McKinsey is a breeding ground for arrogant, self-important people. Once I took the time to get to know the Firm, I quickly realized that the complete opposite is in fact true. That made it a relatively easy decision to join when I was offered a Summer Associate position in 2006.
Recovery in Iraq
I returned to McKinsey as an associate in 2007. My first study addressed economic development in Iraq, which gave me several opportunities to travel to Baghdad. The primary objective of the engagement was to support economic stabilization and recovery in the area. I got to work with some phenomenal people, including a McKinsey partner who had served as Vice President Gore’s senior military advisor.
Broad Experiences, Unique Perspectives
I have had a broad set of experiences across a number of sectors, including retail, pharmaceuticals, restaurants, and the 2016 Chicago Olympic campaign. Although each experience is different, the extraordinary quality and diversity of the people I have encountered has been consistent. Whether the partner is a former President/COO of a major packaged goods company or the associate has a Masters in Applied Physics, each of them brings a unique perspective to the table.
Free Time
In my free time, I enjoy attending live concerts and theater events. I also play basketball every Saturday morning with my McKinsey colleagues, and enjoy a round of golf from time to time. The rest of my weekends are spent exploring my new hometown of Chicago, taking in everything the city has to offer.
