The Tokyo office has created a unique environment where our consultants can grow and build lasting friendships. Through the firm’s Asia House initiative, many of our consultants have gone to work in Europe for a couple of years to expand their experience and skills, as well as help bring an Asian perspective to local business issues.
The Friday Evening Club (FEC—it isn’t official at McKinsey unless there’s an acronym) regularly holds Friday night bar events for the whole office. Our own MGM Rock Band plays at many of our parties. During the annual Hanami (cherry blossom) party, we come together over good food and drinks.
Unique to the firm is our baseball team—the McKinsey Tigers—which plays often during the spring and summer seasons. During our retreats, we’ve explored the islands of our region: Hokkaido, Miyako, and Okinawa. We are also very proud of the fact that we are the only consulting firm in the country that has always had a Japanese female partner.
