As a city with a range of established businesses, Taipei is about growth. From the skyscrapers and constructions cranes that form the skyline to the multinational companies that have made Taiwan a powerhouse, Taipei is a modern city with large economic aspirations.
Those aspirations are reflected in 101 Tower, the world’s tallest building and the site of McKinsey’s Taipei office. With some 95 percent of McKinsey’s consultants in Taipei educated abroad, the office has attracted a group of people committed to making a difference in Taiwan. This mix of people has made the office a close knit group.
Once a month, we host “Home Friday” a get-together around a different theme—from flower arrangement to martial arts. Social committees make sure we have time together, arranging team hikes, paintball games, and cooking lessons, among many other activities. Once a year, we come together to set aspirations for our office. We play games, listen to speeches, and figure out the initiatives we should undertake in the coming year. We also have a retreat, most recently at the Royal Jiaxi Hot Spring Resort in Yi-Lan. We enjoyed the natural beauty of the environment and talked about what we should be doing to help improve the Greater China business community. The highlight of the event was the celebration dinner where almost everyone showed off their hidden talents during our office show.
