McKinsey’s Shanghai office is nestled in the bustling downtown area, one of the busiest and most exciting business environments in the world. The plethora of building cranes reflects the booming growth in the city. The office is not far from the Bund—featuring Baroque, Gothic, Classicist, Romanesque, and Renaissance architecture styles—along the Yangtze river where Shanghai’s modern skyscrapers and historic buildings stand side-by-side.
The Shanghai office is notable for all our clubs—tennis, badminton, basketball, football, and golf—though the most popular one is dance. Our Christmas party for office members and guests featured traditional Chinese entertainment such as fan dancing, drumming, and “face changing.”
We also host an annual party for children of our office members. At our annual team building event, we get together to discuss the future of the office as well as to play games. At our retreat with the Beijing office, we went to Hangzhou on the beautiful West Lake to make new friends and meet up with old ones.
