Active with clients in the former Czechoslovakia since 1991, the Prague office was established as a part of the McKinsey Central and Eastern European office group in 1994. Our first client, back in 1991, was actually based in Slovakia.
The Prague office is located on a quiet street with a very nice view in the center of the city. The mood of the office is relaxed, reflected in the open floor plan. Consultants can gather in team rooms that can be adapted to suit the immediate needs of any given engagement.
Busy as we are, we do not always have the opportunity to get to know each other as well as we’d like. That’s why we organize off-site retreats. They usually last 2 or 3 days, and are an opportunity for us to rejuvenate, socialize, and visit interesting places.
Frequent team sports and office events—such as the TGIF parties, evening boating on Vltava river, the Summer and Christmas parties, Junior Consulting Club activities—all provide opportunities to build networks and make friends with each other and across the firm.
The Prague office competes in the annual McKinsey Olympics. The most recent venue was in Rome and attracted ~400 McKinsey consultants on ~20 football teams, ~20 volleyball teams, and many tennis teams. We’re proud to say that the volleyball team staffed fully from the Prague office won a gold medal the past year. We also have an impressive office hockey team, which is led by a former professional hockey player turned consultant.
