After the 1994 democratic elections, a large South African company called a McKinsey partner in London asking for help and advice. Soon afterwards three partners flew in to investigate and by 1995, we had set up an office here.
The Johannesburg office helps clients outside of South Africa, as well. Our commitment extends to sub-Saharan Africa. Our office—shaped like a ship’s prow, it’s one of the most architecturally distinctive buildings in the country—now has more than 100 people from all over Africa and the world.
We have an annual fundraising drive for Ikageng Itireleng, a nonprofit that supports AIDS orphans in Soweto. In conjunction with the family holiday party, the office hosts two annual parties for area orphans. Popular watering holes for firm members include Turtle Creek and the Jolly Roger. Late night revelers frequent Manhattan, a highly-rated nightclub (the in-crowd refers to it as "the Hat").
And we have a near unbeatable touch rugby team.
