The McKinsey office in Düsseldorf was the first one opened in Germany. Its success spawned the opening of many other offices in the country that now form the German complex. Situated on the Königsallee, the office is in the midst of Germany’s (some say even all of Europe’s) fashion center, as well as the main shopping district.
Office get-togethers include frequent visits to “the longest bar in the world” in Old Town, a well known concentration of 250 bars, pubs, and restaurants. During the Schumanfest, McKinsey “buys” one of the days and invites clients and colleagues to enjoy the concert series.
The office is active in the community. Each Christmas, children from a local day care facility pin their wishes to our tree and we commit to fulfilling all of them. We also work to help renovate, paint, and raise funds for day care facilities in need. For our local retreats, we’ve gone to Sognefjord, Norway, to work on teamwork as well as canoe, climb mountains, and discover glaciers. During an earlier event, we recreated life in the Middle Ages by dressing up, dancing, and playing sports from that era. Europe’s IT help desk service is also situated here so if you have any IT problems, this is the office where you want to be.
As part of the German office complex, we are involved in several nationwide efforts such as pro bono work for orchestras and museums, as well as for health care foundations and hospitals. We established “McKinsey bildet” to help reform and improve Germany’s education system. McKinsey also co-founded “Startsocial,” a nationwide competition of volunteer projects and initiatives where we provide consulting and other assistance.
