McKinsey’s office in Buenos Aires is a place where we create plenty of opportunities for our people to get to know each other. We have an annual “integration event” where we play sports and have contests as a way to bond with each other. At our year-end party, we usually rent out a night club for good food and dancing for our people and their significant others.
During our frequent office lunches, we often have a guest speaker to talk about topics of interest—whether it’s an update on the state of the office or external people who talk about the state of China’s economy. At least once a year, the Women’s Initiative Group organizes a dinner for women consultants to network and exchange stories and tips.
We also have numerous practice events (our work at McKinsey is organized by practices). On Practice Day, we have presentations and discussions on relevant themes. Off-site meetings are usually held in nice locations, with presentations and discussions on hot themes and a social agenda. Each practice also organizes at least one annual dinner—often at one of the many famous nearby steak restaurants.
Every other year, we go on a retreat with our colleagues in the South Latin America office (includes the São Paulo, Santiago, and Buenos Aires offices). Most recently we had a 4-day retreat on Comandatuba island in the state of Bahia. The agenda included external guest speakers, sports activities, and dinner parties, which helped us all to connect and reconnect.
