McKinsey Global Rotation Program

Let McKinsey show you the world—your way

The McKinsey Global Rotation Program provides a unique global consulting experience, customized to your interests and experience level, through a pair of 6- to 12-month rotations in two regions outside of your home region.  You can gain global business exposure, accelerate your professional growth, and improve your ability to serve clients back home—all while benefiting from coordinated professional development and support across offices.

Why we created the Global Rotation Program

Our clients increasingly turn to us for insights based on a global perspective. At the same time, we see that our people want more international exposure and faster development early in their careers. The Global Rotation Program helps us meet both needs, while serving our firm’s values.

This program prepares our people to lead in an increasingly global world.

What makes this program unique

The Global Rotation Program builds a broad, global perspective that only a firm with McKinsey’s worldwide presence and client portfolio of leading institutions can deliver. It’s a unique opportunity to work with some of the world’s most exciting clients in dynamic regions across the globe, while building a personal, international network of colleagues.

The Global Rotation Program accommodates varying interests and levels of experience. As an associate, you would start your McKinsey career building core consulting skills in your home location. After 9 to 12 months, you could undertake two 6- to 12-month international transfers, usually in sequence. Or, if you join the Global Rotation Program as an engagement manager, you might design a program around a particular functional or industry area of interest.

In all cases, participants identify preferred locations, and program coordinators help match individual preferences and professional opportunities. During a rotation, participants’ home and host offices coordinate closely to provide professional development support and a smooth return to the home office.
