Evaluation and coaching
We provide support and feedback to help you grow
We all started here once and depended on others to help us learn. That’s why there’s a culture here to help you grow, as well. Our development programs give you a foundation of essential tools and skills. But everyone here will tell you the best learning and growing happens on the job, alongside your colleagues and clients.
The apprenticeship model
At McKinsey, growth comes from observation and learning. More experienced consultants will go out of their way to help you be successful. If you’re looking for insight on prioritizing resources, building a relationship with a client, or even setting up a spreadsheet, there's already a resource to turn to.
Feedback
Feedback is at the core of our culture. When you’re doing something well, you’ll get reinforcement. When you’re having trouble, someone will point out ways that you can improve. Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming. But the spirit of the feedback is to help you learn, grow, and succeed. Our consultants come to depend on it as the key to their continual growth.
Staffing process
Your assignments will be determined by your skills, as well as your interests and strengths. Our goal is always to give you assignments that will help you develop new talents and deepen your capabilities and knowledge.
Development Group Leader (DGL)
Every consultant is assigned a more senior McKinsey colleague, called a Development Group Leader, to provide career direction and support professional growth. Your DGL takes an active role in guiding your progress and is your representative during performance reviews.
