– Meet Rahil, a business analyst in our Mumbai office who recently graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay with a master’s in materials science and metallurgy.
Interviewer: Why did you apply to McKinsey?
Rahil: I applied because I wanted to explore industries and functions to find my passion, and the breadth and depth of work the firm does made it feel like the best place to experience that variety. Secondly, for the people. I’ve met and now worked with smart, motivated and interesting people who are always willing to help.
Interviewer: What’s the best part of your role?
Rahil: The most exciting part has been the amount of responsibility I’ve had from the start. My first engagement was a SAP transformation. About one week into the work, I presented my initial findings to the client COO with my manager. This ownership and responsibility really helps me to learn and grow.
Interviewer: What advice would you give to others considering joining McKinsey?
Rahil: The best way to get a feel for an organization is to speak with our people, so I recommend talking to as many McKinsey folks as you can. If you feel comfortable with the people you meet during interviews, then McKinsey is the right place for you.
Interviewer: What are you passionate about outside of work?
Rahil: Football. I love playing and watching games.
