McKinsey Q&A: Hans-Martin

– Meet Hans-Martin, a fellow senior associate with our Operations practice, based in Munich:

Interviewer: What surprises you most about McK?

Hans Martin

Hans-Martin: The flexibility - towards our clients, within our teams and for our colleagues. For example, a part of our Take Time program, I am able to spend up to three months each year enjoying travel, sports and social activities. During client engagements, my teams have always been very dynamic and flexible, accomodating individual working preferences.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to candidates applying to McK?

Hans-Martin: If possible, schedule a coaching call with one of our colleagues to discuss the interview process early on. Then, practice cases and personal experience answers with your friends to ensure you are relaxed and ready for the actual interview.

Interviewer: What was one of your most exciting engagements?

Hans-Martin: I’m part of our global Product Development team. We work on topics ranging from technology strategy to product development excellence. Last year, we helped consumer electronics client optimize its mass market LEDs. We used our Design-to-Value Lab in Munich to tear down products and generate new ideas with the client team. To know that some of those ideas now effect millions, helping them save electricity with cheaper LED-bulbs, is very exciting.

Interviewer: What are your hobbies outside of work?

Hans-Martin: I recently started kite-surfing, and I like to travel. I enjoy good music and can't get enough of talking about new tech trends and start-up ideas.

Hans-Martin finished his diploma thesis on enhanced Li-Ion Battery Production at the Uni Karlsruhe - Karlsruher Institut für Technologie in Germany, earning a degree in Business Engineering in 2012. Before joining McK, he worked for Daimler, Porsche, EnBW, Groupon, and Zalando.
