I joined McKinsey as I was excited about the nature of work and an opportunity to work with senior clients to deliver high impact. But it's gone even further than that: I've been a part of experiences ranging from developing new product offerings for a company to shaping the tourism sector of a country. I often work in the insurance sector, which is going through significant changes here in India, and I've been right in the thick of things as it evolves. It's incredibly fulfilling and exciting work.
Impact at the highest level
What's kept me going at McKinsey are the constant chances to work on complex, challenging problems at the highest level. This began early in my time at the McKinsey, when I had the chance to work with the government of a small country in the Himalayas; I spent 8 months there and our team was tasked with reviving the country's tourism sector ensuring sustainable practices. Initially the target seemed impossibly high, almost laughable, but in the end, we even exceeded it.
We made that happen because we stayed on and worked hand-in-glove with the client throughout their entire journey. We didn't just stop at the recommendations: we stayed to see things through, and that made a difference. I was involved in the implementation of the strategies, and we as a team stayed to see them through the execution of our plans. To me, this was so important, and it was the way we were able to bring about real impact.
Choose your own path
I knew I'd have the chance to work with terrific colleagues and senior clients when I joined McKinsey, but what has really surprised me about the firm is the flexibility that it offers. This is true both for my personal and professional life. Some time back, I needed to take a three-month leave of absence from work, and McKinsey supported me the entire time. While at work, I've been able to create my own path, and have never been pushed into a certain role. I've been encouraged to explore different topics, to discover my own interests, and then to follow them. This is what I really value about McKinsey: how you have the chance to create your own path, to make your own experience here.
The growth I've experienced at McKinsey has been phenomenal: I've learned more about leadership here than I ever could have anywhere else. But that hasn't been McKinsey’s most significant contribution to my life. I met my husband at McKinsey, we were working together on a project in my first year at here, and were married two years later. That is, without a doubt, the best thing that McKinsey has given to me.
What I do in my free time
I like to dance, watch movies and spend time with family. I absolutely love relaxing on the weekends, and sometimes go on long drives, to discover new places.
