I was born in Delhi and when I was younger my father relocated a lot for his work, so I’ve lived in many different parts of India. After my MBA, I joined McKinsey in Delhi, but have since moved to Mumbai. I'm the type of person who throws myself into whatever I am doing with a passion. I believe that, when you work on something, it’s your responsibility to do your absolute best, whatever the outcome may turn out to be.
Before coming to McKinsey, I had interned with another company and they offered me a full-time job. But my mentor at that company advised me to apply to McKinsey. My mentor said: ‘Trust me. Take the job at McKinsey—there’s no better place to start your career. Don’t pass up the opportunity of a lifetime!’ So I applied and ended up getting a job offer. His advice made me realize the strength of McKinsey’s reputation in the world of business.
Working in a multi-cultural environment
India is such a large and vibrant country, and there are so many different cultures here. Moving from one part of India to another you find you have to become familiar with a new language and new customs—even the most basic gestures can be very different. Having grown up in this kind of environment I have become very sensitive to cultural differences and fascinated by how people work in different countries and regions. Once, when I worked for a client in the Middle East, the custom was for everyone to finish work and leave the office at 2.30 p.m., and the client’s building would then be empty. Our team needed to work later than this so the client ended up hiring a special security team to man the building just for us!
Why I stay at McKinsey
I really enjoy making a difference for my clients and the professional growth I've been able to achieve. In addition, Mckinsey is very flexible in helping you strike a balance with your professional and personal life. It's an environment that encourages sensible balance at work.
What I do in my free time
My enjoy spending as much time as possible with my family. We like going to theatrical plays and movies. Also, I like to run in my spare time. Half marathons are my favorite, however, I am working towards running the Mumbai marathon one day!
