My expectations
Having been a summer associate before joining, I knew that joining the firm would provide an ideal learning experience, and one that would allow me to find and follow a passion, while improving my overall business skills—structuring and solving problems, establishing and maintaining client relationships, and managing all aspects of a project.
No business background but still a good fit
McKinsey is a great place for smart and driven people regardless of their background. It’s not really about the content knowledge you bring to the table, but about your ability to cope with changing and challenging circumstances –and have fun doing it!
Impact at a high level
On my very first study I was the go-to guy for 30+ client contacts’ critical process questions on a multi-billion-dollar merger. Imagine that! At the end of the study, I realized that without my help, the integration would not have run smoothly at all. McKinsey sets you up for success by giving you just enough knowledge to get you started and then pushing you to deliver beyond what you initially think possible.
The firm is very supportive of our initiatives
I’m the lead for the Hispanics and Latino group in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic office. A group of us realized the current and future importance of the Hispanic and Latin minority in the U.S., so we decided to create a group that would help build the Latin community and McKinsey’s skills in servicing this market. Firm leadership is very supportive of these kinds of efforts.
