Why McKinsey?
I studied mechanical engineering in Rio de Janeiro and got my MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles. I then took a job with a French tire company, where I played the role of an internal consultant. I enjoyed what I did, particularly the problem solving aspects, but after five years I felt somewhat limited and wanted to expand my reach of impact. When McKinsey invited me to interview and then join, I was really excited. I was very interested in the financial sector, and was looking to build my knowledge in business. My first client study was in banking, and I’ve been serving banks ever since.

Global client impact
I’ve had the privilege of working with the same Brazilian banking client from the time I was just starting out to now as a director. Over that time, this client has become one of Brazil’s highest-performing banks—it’s been thrilling to see the effects our work has had over the years. I’ve also served Brazil's largest steel-products manufacturer and the world's largest iron-mining company. My work has involved travel throughout the Middle East and Southeast Asia, where I was learning and applying strategies that benefit emerging-market financial clients.
Creating a community
I’ve always been a people-oriented person. As a transferee, I’ve gone through the emotional experience of moving to a different culture, and that, along with my background, made it quite natural for me to get involved with the Hispanic/Latino consultant network. I wanted to help other colleagues by creating an infrastructure to facilitate mentoring relationships for Hispanic/Latino consultants. At the same time, we wanted to proactively promote connections and McKinsey’s expertise development across Hispanic markets, sectors, and knowledge bases. I like to think I’m building something and enabling folks to be successful.
The firm and family
When I joined McKinsey, I was already married and had a son, Felipe. My daughter, Priscila, was born 3 years later. My wife, Cláudia, and the children have traveled with me whenever they could—from Sao Paolo to a short-term transfer in Toronto, back to Sao Paolo, and then on to Chicago and our current residence in Los Angeles. I believe that my kids have developed a greater awareness of life and the world than they would have without these experiences.
