Diversity of backgrounds
One of our core strengths is the varied experience of our people
The diversity of our backgrounds gives McKinsey the range of expertise to tackle complex problems that don’t fit into easily defined categories.
“I like being in an environment where I’m able to engage with talented, bright, energetic people who have different ideas and backgrounds.”
When we take on a leader’s challenge, we bring together people with distinct knowledge, skills, and perspective—no matter where they are in the world.
We value these differing views and ideas. They lead to keener insights, innovative thinking, and sound solutions for our clients.
This kind of global collaboration helps our people learn from each other. We combine our individual strengths and incorporate different perspectives to find the best answers—critical skills for good leadership.
Many backgrounds from around the world
McKinsey consultants represent a broad range of academic and professional backgrounds.
Some joined the firm directly after earning their undergraduate degree, M.B.A., or other advanced degree. Others arrived after establishing themselves in another career. Nearly half have a background in a field other than business, such as law, medicine, education, and the social sciences.
Our people also come from around the world. McKinsey consultants represent more than 100 nationalities and speak over 120 languages.
