Your ideal career path might not be the one you expected

You don’t need a business degree to thrive here. If you have an advanced professional degree (APD)—such as a J.D., M.D., or Ph.D.—you might be intrigued by the rewards a career at McKinsey offers.

We need people with different skills and backgrounds to broaden the firm’s capabilities and enrich our culture.

If you have the intrinsic problem-solving and leadership skills, we’ll train you on the specifics so you will be well-prepared for your transition into McKinsey.

At McKinsey, you'll be able to:

  • Choose your path
McKinsey has the size and scale to provide you with the choices you want. If you want to build on your existing skills and knowledge, you can. Or if you want to do something completely different, you can do that, too. Or you can do both. You'll decide what course your career will take. No matter what, you’ll be stretched to try new things as you work in challenging and changing environments.
  • Join a global leadership network
When you join the firm, you become a lifetime member of a global community of leaders. They include colleagues, clients, and alumni—thousands of the most talented and accomplished people on the planet. You can call on them while you’re at McKinsey, and for the rest of your career.
  • Have world-shaping impact
You’ll work with leaders of the world’s most influential organizations to solve their most important challenges. Our impact is not limited to the business world. We assist institutions focused on significant social, health, and humanitarian issues.
  • Open doors to the future
The skills and experiences you’ll gain at McKinseyworking with real leaders on tough issueswill create new opportunities for your future, whether it’s with us or somewhere else. Many of our people go on to found companies, start nonprofits, or even become filmmakers.
  • Become a leader
Everything at McKinsey prepares you to lead. After 18 to 24 months with the firm, you’ll typically begin managing teams. After 3 to 4 years, you may divide your time across multiple clients as a junior partner. Within 5 to 7 years, you can become a partner. If you decide to leave McKinsey, you'll take the skills and contacts you made to become a leader in either the private or public sector.
