Experienced professionals
We look for exceptional people from a wide variety of fields and professions, including finance, government, engineering, law, the military, medicine, and industry.
Some experienced professionals come here to take their specialized skills to the next level, knowing that the experience they get will open new doors. Others are looking for broader opportunities, a fresh challenge, or the chance to make a greater impact, quickly, and begin in more generalist roles
For example, Eric, a former physician, came to McKinsey and drew on his clinical experience to help a European national health system look at how it allocated resources.
Whatever your background, we have the size, scale, and culture to help you deepen your skills–and broaden your strengths and your impact.
Why experienced professionals come to McKinsey
“After working in consumer goods for a Belgian company for many years, I wanted to do something different. There is a big shift between working at McKinsey and working in industry. Industry is all about products, production lines, and factories–everything is tangible. Consulting is all about people. McKinsey has made me feel like I am one of its unique assets, and that is quite an experience.”
— Stijn, associate principal
“I spent 12 years in the automotive industry. I knew that McKinsey was a hierarchy-free organization, and I was slightly apprehensive about what that could mean for me. The fact that everyone can speak up means that everyone has a voice, but it also means that your ideas need to be thoroughly formed. You have to be ready to be tested, because you're going to be asked the difficult questions.”
— Deepak, specialist
Roles for experienced professionals
Experienced professionals join McKinsey in a wide range of roles. People with bachelor’s degrees and a few years of experience might join as business analysts, associates, or specialists.
Those with deep experience–through extensive work and life experience–might join as associates, specialists, experts, or in more senior consulting roles.
In all cases, experienced professionals are full-fledged members of client teams in problem-solving, knowledge building, coaching, and providing leadership.
