In this paper from McKinsey’s public sector practice, the widespread demand for better government performance receives a novel response – a campaign to boost public sector productivity toward the startling levels achieved in the private sector.

Taking a government sector-wide perspective, the paper sets out a productivity-based approach to improving government outcomes. Through a combination of greater transparency about performance and greater support for managers in agencies, the McKinsey authors offer recommendations for how government can achieve better results from the investments it makes in the public sector.
