Colin is a director in McKinsey’s London office and leads our Organization Practice globally. For the past 25 years he has helped executives tackle critical organizational challenges involving performance transformation, behavioral change, post-merger integration, and organization design. He has advised some of the world’s largest corporations and public-sector organizations.
Colin has helped direct multi-year change programs and turnarounds that have substantially improved companies’ financial performance and underlying organizational health; acted as the lead advisor on major mergers that have achieved much greater synergies than anticipated; enabled clients to capture substantial savings through cost-reduction and reorganization efforts; supported financial services companies in building healthier institutions in the wake of the economic crisis; and worked with one of the world’s largest health systems to design and implement a large-scale social movement to galvanize employees’ energies in pursuit of a quality strategy.
A prolific author and leading thinker on organizational health, Colin has published seven books, most recently Beyond Performance: How great organizations build ultimate competitive advantage, as well as many articles. A recurrent theme of his work is the need for organizational behavior to be integrated into corporate strategy in order to build purpose, culture, leadership, and capabilities and create an aligned high-performance system.
In addition to his McKinsey roles, Colin holds a visiting professorship at Bath University, where he focuses on organizational behavior and leadership. He is also an associate fellow of the Saïd Business School at Oxford University.
